Some images from a unit teaching portraiture to a class of year 7 students. These kids were great, they were so enthusiastic and each lesson they impressed me, but more importantly themselves, with their drawing skills. I ran these lessons in a similar style to life drawing classes i’ve attended. We started with quick, warm up drawings- 30 seconds, 2 minutes, no looking at the page, continuous line, the pencils in their mouths etc. Over the lesson we built up to longer drawings, focusing on building tone and thinking about how different colours communicated light and dark shades. In the final class the students all made a frame for their work that represented them, they titled their artwork and they shared their work in a class exhibition.
